Brokerage Account: distribution and tax questions
Review the current account process, available transactions, and tax questions for a Brokerage Account.
Account review
A brokerage account can provide cash that is already settled or cash from a sale, but a transfer and a securities sale are separate account actions.
Identify whether cash is already available or a sale is needed
The brokerage can explain settled cash, trade status, sale instructions, settlement, and transfer options. A displayed portfolio value is not the same as cash ready to send to a bank.
Review the sale and tax records together
For a sale, keep the security, lot-selection, estimated proceeds, confirmation, basis record, and later tax form with the transaction file.
